Keep Your Garden Pretty During The Cooler Months

Keep Your Garden Pretty During The Cooler Months

If you pride yourself on keeping a wonderful garden, then you’re going to want to make sure that you’re doing everything that you can to maintain this even while the winter months are passing by. A lot of people tend to think that other than a few plants dying in winter, not much else is happening, but in fact everything changes depending on the season, this is why we split them up into four.

The colder the temperature, the more an environment will change compared to how things are during the late spring and summer, so you want to make sure that you’re changing with the times so that you stay on top of your garden and keep it looking pretty.

If you’re not too sure on how to do this, here are a few examples to get you on the right track.

The Mess

The winter is a better time than any to have a clear out in your garden. This means getting rid of any foliage, leaves, and dead plants from the area. Believe it or not, weeds can still grow – they’re certainly a lot slower now because of the cold – but they still spread all the same. So keep on top of them just as you would in warmer months. Trim any bushes that need cleaning up, and put any fallout in your compost bin. You may find that your compost is steaming – this is completely normal so no need to worry, it just means that it’s decomposing as it should be.

The perimeter

If you have a fence or gate surrounding your garden, depending on the amount of time you’ve had it for will determine whether you should think about upgrading. There is nothing wrong with wood, but it can be rather sensitive to the weather, especially the cold, rain, and snow, as this can rot the wood a lot quicker than normal. Because of this, you may want to look at some metal fencing and gates as a better option. Not only do they look good, but they stand the test of time and work as a great form of security too.

The feature

As beautiful as water features are, you will want to avoid them at all costs during the winter. This is simply because if it gets too cold outside, the water risks freezing, which can cause harm to the wildlife, and also break whatever your feature is as the ice will expand. To ensure that you turn everything off and remove any leftover water that’s inside. If you do still want a cute feature in your garden, then have a look at various light sources. Fairy lights add a lovely magical touch to your space, perfect for Christmas.

Now you have a few tips to ensure your garden looks as wonderful as ever, be sure to do what is required of you. What better way to show off your garden this year than by creating your very own winter wonderland?
